Wild in the West Fjords: 2 Hour ATV Ride
Adventure across the striking landscapes of Dýrafjörður with guides who grew up there. Ride through forests, splash across rivers, and ascend to the top of Sandafell, deep in Iceland's remote Westfjords.

Overview
The Fjord
If you're looking to ride off the beaten path surrounded by incredible scenery, there's not many places quite like Dýrafjörður. Due to it's distance from the ring road, many tourists miss out on the pristine nature of the region, often skipping a visit to the West Fjords entirely. The unique peaks located between Dýrafjörður and Arnarfjörður are the only mountains without plateau-like tops that can be found in the West Fjords. Situated on the edge of the "West Fjord Alps", the adventure begins in the small village of Þingeyri. Althought it was once a 19th century trade center, only 240 people call this fjord home today.
The Ride
Setting off from the village, we will make our way toward the slopes of Sandafell. Panoramic views of the glittering fjord and surrounding peaks await at the top. From there we weave through forest trails and splash across the Sandá river. Enjoy off-road thrills surrounded by the magical nature that makes the Westfjords unforgettable, far from the crowds of the south.
The Local Difference
Your guides are West Fjord natives, with a deep connection and admiration for the land they grew up in. They know the mountains and meadows, the twists of the trails, and the bends of the rivers like the back of their hands. This is for travelers who want to hear stories and get to know the regions they adventure through.

Nice and fun activity! We're still able to book it only half a day in advance which was very convenient. We were the only 2 on the tour so we had a private tour, extra bonus. We chose the 2-hour tour, which was nice tour through a river and up a mountain.
Experience of driving an ATV is not required the guide gives you good instructions and builds up the complexity and speed along the ride. Safety and enjoyment are the main points of focus, so don't expect a high speed tour, the scenery is far too beautiful for that. You get some good gear, gloves, helmet and overalls so we were warm all along the tour (we didn't have any rain).
We had a really nice ride. We just booked it a day before, and it was no problem! But also low season.
We did the 2 hour ride, we went multiple times threw the river and did go up a mountain. We had the uppertunity to take some nice pictures. The guide was really nice, took the time te explane and let us get use to the ATV. The tour was beautiful! It's not a ride for the speed, but for the rough nature and the views.
