For those who want to do more than just walk on the ice, this is the ultimate challenge. Led by Laurent (an expert specialist and friend of the platform), this tour focuses on the sport of mountaineering.

The day begins with an extensive hike through the dramatic ice formations of the Skaftafell region. As you push deeper into the glacier, leaving the walking groups behind, your guide will scout a vertical ice wall suited to the group's ability. Here, you will learn the art of ice climbing: how to swing the axe, trust your crampons, and conquer the wall. No previous climbing experience is needed—just a good fitness level and a willingness to try. It is a physical, rewarding day that creates the kind of memories you can’t get from a sightseeing bus.

  • AIMG Certified Glacier Guide (Specialized technical guide)
  • Small group guarantee (Strict 1:6 ratio for safety)
  • Transport from Skaftafell Base to the glacier roots
  • Extended glacier hike and ice climbing session
  • Technical gear: Helmet, crampons, harness, and ice axes
  • Sturdy Hiking Boots: Must have good ankle support and a stiff sole (soft sneakers are dangerous for climbing).
  • Technical Clothing: Waterproof breathable jacket (Gore-Tex or similar) and pants.
  • Warm Layers: Base layer (wool/synthetic) + Mid layer (fleece/wool). Cotton and Jeans are strictly forbidden.
  • Accessories: Warm hat and gloves.
  • Fuel: Small backpack with a packed lunch and water.
  • Fitness: This is a physical tour (Difficulty 3/5); participants must be comfortable hiking for several hours.

A legendary experience! We booked as a couple and were extremely lucky to be just the two of us! Jan was an extraordinary guide who took us through an exceptional morning of crevasses, ice tunnels, and ice axe climbing. We had time to fully enjoy the glacier, take photos, and listen to his fascinating explanations about the glacier and how it evolves. I 100% recommend this young company, which will help you discover the wonders of Iceland in their best light.

Excellent day hiking on the glacier with Laurent. French-speaking guide, of excellent quality, organizing small group hikes (we were alone with him when we had not asked to privatize the excursion). Very attentive to everyone’s safety, shares a lot of information, adapts to everyone’s desires (video of our teenagers 😅). He took us away from the other groups, to feel the immensity of the place. It was magical! Recommend without hesitation.
